ADOPTION OF CONTRACEPTIVES AMONG ADOLESCENTS AT JARAMOGI OGINGA ODINGA TEACHING AND REFERRAL HOSPITAL
Abstract
The adoption of contraceptives among adolescents remain a critical public health concern due to its impact on adolescents health, unintended pregnancies and broader socio economic implications. (Bearinger et al.,2019). Adolescents are also at increased risks of poor obstetrics outcome including preterm deliveries, low birth weight, pre-eclampsia, postpartum hemorrhage, anemia as well as neonatal and maternal morbidity and mortality (Chen et al.2020). The aim of this research was to investigate the adoption of contraceptives among adolescents at JOOTRH. Determining factors such as socio demographic, socio cultural and methods of contraceptives applied. The study took place at JOOTRH, Quantitave method was use where questionnaires were issued to the sampled population.The data was analyzed through descriptive statistics and then presented by tables and graphs. . Preliminary findings reveals that while awareness of contraceptives is relatively high,actual usage rate remains low due to myths and misconceptions, cultural stigma,The study also highlights the role of education, healthcare provider attitudes and peer influence in shaping adolescents choice regarding contraceptives. In conclusion findings underscore the need for comprehensive, adolescent centered interventions and policy frameworks that address this barriers to improve contraceptives adoption. Enhancing access to accurate information and youth friendly reproductive health services could significantly improve contraceptive use among adolescents, ultimately contributing to better health outcomes and reduced adolescents pregnancy rates.
