| dc.description.abstract | This study investigates the factors influencing abortion incidence among women of reproductive age in JOOTRH, Kisumu, Kenya; a region characterized by diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and religious dynamics. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the research incorporates both quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews with women aged 15-49 to explore the roles of four key independent variables: socioeconomic factors, religious and cultural influences, access to reproductive health services, and education on reproductive health.
Preliminary quantitative analysis indicates that socioeconomic status significantly affects women's access to healthcare and family planning resources, with lower-income individuals facing substantial barriers (Khan et al., 2020). Qualitative findings reveal that cultural norms and religious beliefs play a pivotal role in shaping attitudes toward abortion, often leading to stigma and reluctance to seek safe services (Makoni et al., 2019). Furthermore, limited access to comprehensive reproductive health services has been linked to increased rates of unplanned pregnancies and subsequent abortions, particularly among marginalized groups (Ouma et al., 2021).
This study highlights the critical need for comprehensive reproductive health education, which is shown to empower women to make informed choices about their bodies and reproductive health. By emphasizing the interconnectedness of socioeconomic status, cultural beliefs, healthcare access, and education, the research aims to inform policymakers and healthcare providers in developing targeted interventions. Ultimately, enhancing reproductive health services and education can contribute to reducing the incidence of unsafe abortions and improving overall women's health outcomes in Kisumu. | en_US |
