PREVALENCE OF NEONATAL SEPSIS AMONG NEONATES ADMITTED IN NEW BORN UNIT AT KISUMU COUNTY REFFERAL HOSPITAL IN KISUMU COUNTY.
Abstract
Neonatal sepsis is one of the primary causes of neonatal mortality and mobility worldwide. Although measures have been put in place to try curb this, its incidences still remain high in Sab-Saharan Africa among other low income countries. Similarly, in Kenya, neonatal sepsis still remains a big challenge. The objective of this study is to determine incidence of neonatal sepsis and predisposing factors in neonates diagnosed with neonatal sepsis at KCRH Kisumu County. A descriptive cross-sectional study design will be conducted among neonates admitted at Obama KCRH. A random sampling will be done where neonates will be selected randomly and parents of the ones selected will also be used as respondents. Data will be collected using interview, questionnaire which will then be analyzed. The implication of the study is to identify predisposing factors to neonatal sepsis and provide information that will help in decision making and prevention control. This study found out that prevalence of neonatal sepsis at KCRH ne born unit is 26.5%, also different factors such as sex, maternal infection among other factors contributed to this. With this result, this study concludes that prevalence of neonatal sepsis at KCRH new born unit is low.
